LEG2 report: on the tracks of Strandja

The second leg of Balkan Classic Rallye 2018 offered totally different type of surface of the racing tracks. The itinerary near the Strandja mountain offered narrow roads in deep woods, as well as fast tracks in some plains. There was modifications of the leg, so total 5 special stages was in the menu.

The first stage was won by Andrew Siddal (Datsun 240Z), followed by three teams with equal times. The second CS was the best for Bertrand Pierrat (Porsche), followed by the two Datsuns. But this part of the rout was a nightmare for the team of Josef Jobsts, who broke the driveshaft of his 911, and, together with co-driver Jurgen Bertl has to fix it on the stage, losing lot of time. In the connection between the second and third stage, the Polonez team had to return to the camp due to broken suspension.

The third stage was won by father and son Lausberg, who overtook the Bentley family. In this stage, there was some small accident for Michael Steindl (Ford Cortina).

Finally, the last stage was also won by Bertrand Pierrat and the codriver Andree Hansen, who took the daily best time at all. The French-Luxembourg duo now has the second position in the overall ranking, after the leaders Geof Bell and Mattias Adielson (Datsun).

It is very interesting, that Balkan Classic is the first macadam rally for Pierrat, and he is doing it very well. Also, the Frenchman has experienced co-pilot – Andree Hansen, the wife of well known pilot Bernard Munster. For Hansen, this is the third Balkan Classic (and third time with a Porsche). In first participation, she was driving with her husband.
